Abstract

In Okinawa, outflow of red soils from the areas of public utility, developments of farmland and resort, establishments of the U. S. armed forces becomes an important social problem. Thisproblem gives serious damage to the sea environment, fishing industry and the tourist industry. Therefore regulation to prevent outflow of red soils took effect in 1997. This regulation obliges publicand private enterprise to some counter plans and managements for prevention of outflow of red soils. One of some counter plans is sand sedimentation tank. A measure of muddy water for effluent uses concentration of suspended solids. But this measure needs time and energy, so new measuring system is required. In this paper, the authors describe principle and method of new Measuring Equipment for Evaluation of Muddy Water (MEE). And we carried out pollution situation of the beach sand and the various chemical experiments on the some red soils (pH, Electric Conductivity, Water-Soluble Components of Soils, Fluorescent X-ray Diffraction).
