Abstract

A numerical study on the 2D and 3D flows over wavy surface with arbitrary shaped boundary has been performed by applying a higher-order upwind scheme and the orthogonal mesh generating technique. In the 2-D cases, we first simulated flows over the sinusoidal solid surface. Numerical results agree reasonably well with the analytical solutions derived by the perturbation method. In the second the flows over dune-shaped solid surface were calculated and the velocity and shear-stress distributions as well as vorticity component ωz were well predicted. Finally, a flow over the doublesinusoidal surface was simulated via the same scheme and the 3D motions of the fluid on the wavy surface were clarified.
