Estuary sedimentation sometimes reduces the capacities of drainage and navigation in a river. Recently, an idea of a tidal reservoir ‘Marine Hollow’ was proposed by Akai as a device of the control of estuary sedimentation. In this study, the effect of the nearshore reservoir for the control of the sedimentation in a tide dominated estuary is discussed through a numerical simulation based on a two dimensional bed variation model and some laboratory experiments. It is found that a tidal reservoir enhances tidal currents and scours the bed at least near the mouth of the reservoir.
