Abstract

There occurred a levee break of the Izushi River near the district of Torii in Izushi-chou, Hyogo Pref. on Oct. 20, 2004, which is caused by the heavy rainfall induced by Typhoon No. 23 (TOKAGE). In order to perform a high-resolution inundation simulation of this area, detailed topographical data is measured by using a kinematic GPS system. Two dimensional shallow water equation based on the unstructured grid system is used for the simulation. Since the grid size is adjusted so that respective houses can be resolved in the simulation, it became possible to estimate hydrodynamic forces exerted on the houses, which is found to have a close relation to the actual house damages.
