Abstract
The works by the fisheries agency, port department and river department have been carried out based on independent standards designated by several laws. These standards stipulate that sand accumulated inside the ports and harbors must be removed by dredging, and be utilized as construction materials for land reclamation. Consideration of the influence to beach erosion along the surrounding coastline is entirely lacking. Continuous dredging accelerates sand loss along the surrounding coastline, unless dredged sand is returned to the beach. Modification of these standards is required.
