Abstract
This paper describes a method of accuracy compensation for a 5–axis controlled machining center to achieve consistent high–precision machining. The proposed method evaluates the accuracy of a rotary axis indirectly by using a coordinate measuring machine to measure the dimensions of a workpiece machined only with a rotary axis controlled. To verify this method, we conducted multi–surface machining on the inner surface of a bore, based on the determined center point of a rotary axis, while evaluating the measuring accuracy of the index error. The results show our approach can enhance processing accuracy.
