Abstract
Lapping and polishing are one of the very old surface finishing methods. Fundamentally, the rubbing actions together with the work and the tool under using slurry become a necessary condition. These began from processing by a man's hand help, then tools and machines were developed and improved, and are becoming one of the same machining method as the cutting and the grinding at present. In this report, the flow of historical development and the future of lapping and polishing machines are considered and, especially the discussion result of the origin of "Oscar" of " Oscar-type lens polishing machine" is described.
