Study on Grinding Characteristics of Ultrafine-Crystalline UcBN Grains (1st Report)

Abstract

This paper presents the grinding characteristics of ultrafine-crystalline UcBN grains. Grinding tests using single point cutting edge have been carried out to clarify the fundamental grinding ability of UcBN grains, such as wear resistance of the cutting edge, the ability for retaining the edge shape and so on. Radial grain wear rate in grinding using UcBN grain is smaller than 20 % of that in using conventional cBN-W5 grain.
