Abstract
Finding human fingertip forces in handling a productenables us to evaluate the property of the product such asusability.In this study, we present a method to estimate fingertip forcesfrom EMG signals. The method does not require measurement offingertip forces at all; a musculoskeletal model offingers of each subject is used instead. In this method, we calculate the maximum fingertip force from the model and finger pose measured by a data glove.Then, we estimate current fingertip forcesfrom the maximum fingertip force and measured EMG signals.Experimental results for an index finger show thatthe estimation is basically possible.
