Abstract
Assembly of functionalized particles with surface modification has potential applications such as sensor devices. Dip-coating provides efficient assembly allowing on the specified position with hydrophilic/hydrophobic patterns. However, surface modification changes interaction between particles and/or particle-and-substrate, thus make the assembly difficult. This study firstly attempted to modify silica particles with the organic silane monolayer and protein to characterize the surface. Secondly, we attempted to assemble the modified particles on hydrophilic/hydrophobic patterned substrate by drawing up from suspension in which particles were dispersed. The hydrophobic particles assembled selectively along the pattern although the assembly had some defects. The protein-modified particles also could be assembled without detachment of protein.
