Abstract
Micro V-groove face turning of a cobalt-free tungsten carbide disk using a mono-crystalline diamond tool and a poly-crystalline diamond tool is performed. The tungsten carbide is fixed on a rotary table which is set on a precision surface grinding machine table. Grinding head of the grinding machine is replaced by a tool rest. V-groove face turning is performed by continuous down feed of the tool. Under the cutting speed of 10.2m/min and feed speed of 24μm/min, theoretical feed rate is at 0.48μm/rev, and groove depth is set at 5μm. Diamond tool edge shape is replicated to an oxygen-free-copper disk every after 100m turning to measure the tool wear. As the result, wear height of mono-crystalline diamond tool and poly-crystalline diamond tool edge after 500m cutting was 4.8μm and 2.2μm respectively.
