Abstract
In additive manufacturing of fused deposition modeling (FDM) process, removal of surface gaps between the stacked layers is required as post finishing process. Today, this process often depends on manual work completely. Then, introduction of numerical controlled machining for polishing process is strongly required. Therefore, a new algorithm for path generation of the polishing tool and process planning method are focused as an important issue to automate whole of the AM procedure. In this study, we propose a new process planning algorithm for the AM procedure with considering finishing process. In the proposed algorithm, workpiece model is recursively divided into small shape, which can be polished with 3-axis NC machine without interference between workpiece surface and polishing tool. By considering workpiece shape adapted on finishing process before lamination process, polishing process can be executed with NC machine tool.
