Roof Design by Applying Log-Aesthetic Curves

Abstract

To illustrate the possibility of applying log-aesthetic curves to architectural design, straight lines and log-aesthetic curves were combined to design the gable roof of a wooden house. We designed the roof so that the straight lines and curves connected smoothly with each other, along with smooth variations in the curvature of the eaves, by setting conditions on the tangential directions and curvatures of the log-aesthetic curves at their end points.
