Abstract
The Bessel point described in verification (I) is supporting position in the case of graduations cut on the neutral surface of line standard. In practical type of linear scale having square section, however, graduations are designed on a surface of the section. Therefore, it is doubtful whether the Bessel point is suitable or not, even if measurement object is line standard. In this report, it is theoretically clarified by means of mechanics of materials that the linear scale must be supported at the Airy point.
