Abstract

To ease the potential bioeffects including side burnings and haemorrhage of tissues induced by conventional High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) treatments and to achieve powerful ultrasound transmission using Minimally Invasive Treatments (MIT), we invented Double Parabolic refLectors wave-guided high-power Ultrasonic tranSducers (DPLUS). Powerful ultrasound is generated by acoustic focusing of the 1st parabolic reflector and guided by the 2nd parabolic reflector, the resulted plane-wavefront powerful ultrasound is propagating through the miniaturized cylindrical waveguides for high power transmission. Simulation, analytical results and experiments positively support the high-power ultrasound generation. Experimental results indicate that extremely large vibration velocity at the waveguide tip can be achieved. Vibration velocity peak value of 5.2 m/s can be realized at around 140 Vpp, 0.814 MHz, and amplification ratio of vibration velocity reaches up to around 23 under 5-cycles burst excitation. The superior performances are promising for enormous biomedical applications, including ultrasound therapeutics, cell capture, cavitation, etc.
