Abstract

Thermal deformation accounts for 70% of machining errors in machine tools. The latest improvements in sensor technology have enabled the robust estimation of thermal displacement by multi-point temperature data of the entire structure. However, the temperature of the feed drive system has not been measured directly so far because of the difficulty of data transmission and power supply. In this study, we developed a wireless multi-point temperature sensor system and measured the temperature of the ball screw. As a result of adding the temperature data at 25 points of the ball screw, the accuracy of the thermal displacement estimation was improved compared to that of only 277 points of the structure.
