An Application of Life-Satisfaction Indecies for Policy Making: Analysis on the Structure of the Life-Satisfaction Indecies Based on the Public Opinion Poll

Abstract

In governmental policy making, the life satisfaction indecies of the citizen is very important. However, there is little analysis about the internal causal relationships between policies and people’s life-satisfaction. This paper aims to build the causal structure of people’s life-satisfaction and policy-satisfaction, and propose an application of life-satisfaction indecies for policy making.

As the result of this study, we found that the causal structural model of life-satisfaction could be built exploratory from statistical analysis on a public opinion poll.

In addition, the following results are found. 1) We can find what kind of policies to contribute directly to life-satisfaction. 2) We can calculate the total influence of the variance of a policy satisfaction level on life-satisfaction (marginal lifesatisfaction). 3) We can identify the three factors of life-satisfaction variance by time series analysis. First factor is the improvement of policy-satisfactions level (Policy Effect). Second factor is the improvement of life-satisfaction level (Not Policy Effect). Third factor is the change of the causal structural model of life-satisfaction (Preference Variance)
