Abstract

Improvement of governance of socio-ecological systems is necessary to achieve the sustainability transition. First of all, analytic tools should be improved. Challenges for science include framing of problem and problem of fit. Lessons for policy include paying attention to long-term consequence by employing low discount rate, coping with uncertainty of climate change as a national security issue, emphasizing social learning as well as adaptive management.
