Abstract

In this report, we describe some causes for spot-weld shear strength consistency in Alclad 24S-T, 1.8mm thickness. As spot welding machine, we used the single phase A.C. type spot welder with slope controlled wave shape. We studied the spot weld consistency in welding current, electrode tip condition and surface treatment.
It resulted as follows :
(1) Among the factors affecting spot-weld shear consistency, the surface treatment is very important. The wire brush method gives good results in the consistency compared with H2SiF6 method.
(2) Above experiment revealed that welding current consistency and weld shear consistency were both order of a few percent.
(3) The effect of electrode tip contaminotion is somewhat largr.
