Abstract
Features of the visual information processing technique were examined for the purpose of detecting automatic control of welding process. The most suitable image processing method for these features was developed by the author. The image of the object is processed and converted into binary data by the processor. The necessary informations are extracted from these binary data. The author calls this pro-cessor the BIP (the Binary Image Processor).
Two examples of the BIP application to on-line detection of welding process are shown in this report.
One example is the detection of wire and joint configurations by direct observation of the arc welding process progressing part. The other is the detection of the fine weld line of butt welding.
The usefulness of the BIP is proved by these examples.
