Abstract
The use of zinc-coated steel sheets in industries has increased rapidly. Spot welding of galvanized steel sheets, however, has been a problem from the beginning. That is poor electrode life due to high welding current.
An attempt has been made in this program to improve weld quality deterioration in the spot welding of galvanized steel sheets. Aluminum oxide powder is interposed at the interface between two galvanized steel sheets to be welded, having an aim to increase contact resistance at faying surface.
Tests have indicated that the powder addition is much effective to reduce weld time requirements and consequently, for improving tip life and welding performance.
