Abstract

In the design of railway structures based on current design standards, performance checks are conducted under a wide range of assumed conditions. In particular, when the seismic deformation method is applied to evaluate seismic response values of bridges and viaducts, numerous design cases are examined by varying combinations of inertia force and ground displacement. In this study, seismic design results of railway bridges and viaducts were systematically analyzed, and the performance check results for each design case were compared to identify governing cases and their underlying factors. The results show that, for many performance check items, the governing design cases are common, and these tendencies are consistent with the period ratio between the structure and the ground as well as with the mechanical characteristics of the performance check items. Based on these findings, practical design cases were organized, indicating that appropriate performance checks can be conducted while reducing the number of required design cases.
