This paper aims to give an overview of the NUBBEK national survey, which was conducted in 2010 to examine the situation and quality of early childhood care and education for younger children in Germany. The research group centered around Tietze, W. (Freie Universitat Berlin) focused on the following aspects.
1. To gain better understanding of the varied systems of early childhood and education, the study was designed around childcare facilities such as nurseries, kindergartens, and daycares, as well as factors related to the families of the children examined.
2. The findings are grouped around these four categories: (1) personal history of education and care of the children; (2) quality of processes in childcare facilities; (3) quality of processes within the families; (4) the relation between the quality of inner- and extra-family processes and the educational and developmental skills of children.
