Abstract

【Purpose】: This study aims to clarify the relationship between the working conditions and the changes in bodily functions due to secondary disorders in persons with cerebral palsy. 【Methods】: Eleven persons with cerebral palsy, aged between their twenties and fifties, who were currently or formerly employed, were interviewed. The data obtained through the interview research were analyzed with the help of the Modified Grounded Theory Approach (M-GTA). 【Results】: From the narrative of a cerebral palsy, the concept of a secondary disability related to employment was generated. Persons with cerebral palsy were aware of the need for secondary disability and functional decline, and were recognized the process of reconsidering working and the changes in bodily function. Secondary disorder and functional decline, as it affects working, are important aspects of cerebral palsy. As a result, it is important to maintain high motivation levels at the workplace so as to mitigate the demotivation that persons with cerebral palsy might experience as a result of their secondary disorders. 【Conclusion】: Changing the working conditions, while recognizing the bodily changes brought about by secondary disorders, helped in maintaining a motivated and satisfying employment. This enabled employed persons with cerebral palsy to engage in satisfying work.
