The purpose of this study was to examine the thought and action processes of parents regarding the employment of their children with higher brain dysfunctions with early onset of the injuries, to promote their participation in society after graduation. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 parents of children with higher brain dysfunctions who were employed after graduating from schools. The results were analyzed in accordance with the Modified Grounded Theory Approach, and the resulting charts and storylines were created. Four categories, two subcategories, and 20 concepts were obtained as “the process of parents' thoughts and actions in searching for a place to live for a person with higher brain dysfunction who was injured in childhood”. Parents seemed to begin the “search for a place to stay” with “endless anxiety about the reality and future of their children,” But “a sense of dissatisfaction with the absence of support and information” seemed to “determination and action to protect their children,” which would lead to “enforced idealization of what their children should be like before the injury.” This process of parental thought and actions indicates the need for adequate support for parents and the development of support systems.
