Abstract
Polarographic behaviour of vanadyl ions in varying percentages of methanol, ethylene glycol and glycerol has been studied in presence of 0.1M NaClO4 as the supporting electrolyte. A diminution in diffusion current (id) owing to decrease in diffusion coefficient (D) is noticed with increasing percentage of each alcohol. The vanadyl ions display an irreversible character. Complexation is noticed in presence of methanol with which rate constants kf, h0 have been reported. While with ethylene glycol and glycerol the behaviour is just the reverse. Changes in D or r (ionic radius), coupled with inconstancy in id η1/2 prove the role of solvation which affect the values of diffusion currents.
