Kinetics and Mechanism of Polarographic Reduction of Rhodamin B

Abstract

Polarographic reduction of Rhodamin B has been carried out in Britton Robinson and Mcllvaine buffers. The value of n computed from experimentally determined D and subsequent application of llkovic equation and E_3/4-E_1/4 values conclusively prove that the electrode process is irreversible. k, the rate constant, αnα the product of transfer coefficient and electrons involved in the activation process and δG≠ the energy of activation have been calculated. Attempts have also been made to estimate value of n_a alone and to give mechanism of the electrode process.
