Abstract
The food habits of the larvae of four species of Hydropsychidae (Trichoptera) were studied. The results obtained are as follows :
1) The larvae under consideration take both vegetable and animal foods, preferring the former rather than the latter.
2) The foods taken by each species are shown in tables 1-4.
3) They eat almost everything caught in the nest they have made. Of the larvae studied, four species have recently been noticed by the Japanese entomologists as the insects injurious to the water power plant in reducing the rate of flow. They are : Hydropsyche nakaharai Tsuda, H. ulmeri Tsuda, Macronerna radiatum MacLachlan and Hydropsychodes brevilineata Iwata.
