Abstract
During the period from October 1971 to February 1972, the chemical analyses of the water of 18 main rivers in Mie Prefecture were carried out three times to make clear the difference of water qualities between those inflowing the Bay of Ise and those flowing in Kumano-nada (the Sea of Kumano).
The results of analyses of the river waters in terms of PO4-P, NH3-N, NO2-N and NO3-N are given in Table 1.
The rivers inflowing eastwards the Bay of Ise have the water containing organic substances in higher concentrations, derived mostly from urban sewage, while those flowing southwards in the Sea of Kumano seem to keep relatively natural conditions. The statistical data regarding the outflows of each component in question in both groups of rivers are summarized in Tables 4 and 5. The outflows of PO4-P were nearly similar in quantity to each other between two groups of rivers, while those of nitrogen compounds were found to be markedly different between them.
