Abstract
Three cases of desmoid tumor, a rare benign tumor, are presented.
A 17-year-old girl without a history of pregnancy or surgery was subjected to excision of a left buttock tumor with suppurative drainage. The tumor measured 14×10×10cm and was cystic. Microscopic study revealed fibromatosis and abscess. Four operations were necessary during the next six months for recurrence.
A 34-year-old woman with a history of pregnancy and surgery for ectopic pregnancy was subjected to excision of a left inguinal tumor not related to the operative scar. The tumor measured 4.5×3.5×2cm and was whitish-gray and tendon-like in appearance. Microscopic study revealed fibromatosis. There was no evidence of recurrence for six years.
A 31-year-old woman with a history of pregnancy and cholecystectomy was subjected to excision of a right lower quodrant tumor. The peripheral portion of the tumor was connected with the opeartive scar. The tumor measured 13×7×6cm and consisted of a cystic part and a whitish-gray part with tendon-like appearance. Microscopic study revealed fibromatosis. Polypropylene mesh and dura mater were used for repairing the abdominal wall defect after tumor excision. There was no evidence of recurrence for two and half years.
