Abstract
A rare case of early gastric cancer with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) was reported. A 72-year-old man was treated for CML since 1981. In May 1984 a IIc type early gastric cancer was found in the antrum. Since the cancer was diagnosed during a remission of CML, gastrectomy and splenectomy were performed in June 1984. Myeloid leukemia cells were found in the spleen by histological examination.
In Japan, gastric cancer is said to be the most predominant form of combined second malignoncy in cases of CML and so for this reason, periodical checks of the upper gastrointestinal tract should be done initially in order to rule out the possibility of this combined malignancy in CML patients.
If the patient is in remission of CML, a surgical operation will be performd without extraordinary treatment.
