Abstract
Characteristic findings of adenomatous hyperplasia of the liver by several diagnostic imaging methods are still unknown. Two cases of adenomatous hyperplasia confirmed histologically are presented with reference to its differential diagnosis from hepatocellular carcinoma. Abdominal ultrasound showed hypoechoic masses in Case 1 and a well-defined hyperechoic mass in Case 2. Computed tomography (CT) showed isodensity masses in Case 1 and a mass of mixed attenuation in Case 2. Hepatic angiography revealed no abnormal findings except for those due to liver cirrhosis in the two cases. In Case 2, more marked fatty infiltration was found histologically than in Case 1. Therefore, it is conjectured that the image-diagnostic findings observed in Case 1, hypoechoic mass on ultrasound, isodensity mass on CT, hypovascularity on hepatic angiography, may reflect more typical findings of adenomatous hyperplasia of the liver. However, further study is required.
