Abstract
We encountered a 46-year-old male patient with bile duct carcinoma with anomalous union of the pancreaticobiliary ductal system and congenital bile duct dilatation. The pattern of union was of the bile duct type suggested by Kimura et al. Sites where carcinoma of bile tract occurs commonly were studied by dividing 134 cases of carcinoma of bile tract associated with the anomalous union, which have been reported in Japan, including our cases, into the (A) cystic dilatation type, (B) fusiform dilatation type and (C) non-dilatation type according to the form of bile duct dilatation and the pattern of union. The carcinogenic site of type A was the bile duct in 73.7% of cases, and the incidence of carcinoma of the gallbladder was low, 26.3%. On the other hand, 87.8% and 97.3% of the cases of fusiform dilatation and non-dilatation, respectively, were associated with carcinoma of the gallbladder.
