Abstract
Among nine cases of annuloaoritc ectasia surgically treated since 1975, three had early death from LOS, two sudden death in late stage, and one fatal outcome from LOS following reoperation for recurrent aneurysm. Although the use of a composite graft has provided improved reuslts of operation for the disease, various problems such as control of hemorrhage during operation and pathological change of the remaining aortic wall. In the present study, factors influencing the results of surgery and long-term prognosis were examined in the pre-, intra- and postoperative periods. As preoperative factors, occurrence of aortic dissection, time of operation, and presence or absence of symptoms such as anginal pain appeared of hemorrhage were found to serve as intraoperative factors. In the postoperative period, factors such as LOS, arrhythmia and infection were noted to be involved in prognosis. The above problems were studied through a review of the literature as well as the present cases.
