Abstract
Since an ultrasound-guided alcohol injection into renal cysts was reported by Bean in 1981, this technique has been successfully applied to hepatic cysts. When this technique was introduced to our department, alcohol was preoperatively injected into S2 and S4 and S3 cysts and the extraction of a S4 cyst. Histological comparison of the removed specimens revealed the usefulness of the alcohol injection therapy. No complications associated with puncture occurred in 4 patients, including the above-mentioned case. In a case of huge cyst, a catheter was indwelt, and alcohol was re-injected hwenever necessary. Since cysts decreased in size or disappeared by alcohol injection in the 4 patients, asd since no recurrence or a tendency toward enlargement was seen, we rated the potentiality of this technique high.
