Abstract
Pre- and posteoperative serum IAP (Immunosuppressive acid protein) level was evaluated in 53 cases of gastric cancer and 37 cases of colorectal cancer to clarify the correlations with pathological progress and prognosis.
1. In cases of gastric cnacer, the preoperative serum IAP level was correlated with lymphnodal metastasis and lymphatic and venous invasion.
2. In cases of colorectal cancer, the preoperative serum IAP level was correlated with lymphatic and venous invasion and the depth of invasion.
3. In both cases, the preoperative serum IAP level showed a significant difference between cancers in Stage I and those in Stage II and more.
4. In both cases, an analysis of postoperative IAP timecourse revealed that the level fell to normal range but then markedly increased again in the recurrent patients.
5. These findings show that the serumn IAP level in gastric and colorectal cancers in useful for presumption of the stage and prognostic evaluation, though not so useful for early diagnosis.
