Abstract

A case of oxyphilic cell adenome (Hurthle cell adenoma) of thyroid demonstrating a specific scintigram is reported. A 41-year-old woman with the complaint of an anterior neck tumor visited our hospital. She had no symptom of hyperthyroidism, but slight elevation of serum T3 and T4 were observed. The tumor was imaged as kot by 99mTc scintigram and warm by 123I scintigram. The discrepancy observed between the two scintigrams was revealed due to that of thyroglobulin secretion into the follicular cavity by an immunohistochemical staining with anti-thyroglobulin. The tumor situated in the upper portion of right lobe of the thyroid with distinct capsule was removed by partial resection of right lobe of the thyroid. The tumor was 1.5cm in diameter and no swelling of regional lymph nodes was observed. Histological diagnosis was oxyphilic cell adenoma (Hurthle cell adenoma).
