Abstract

A case of giant squamous cell carcinoma of the breast is reported. The case was a 55-year-old woman with the chief complaint of a large lump of the right breast. The lump with a comparatively sharp ege was elastic hard, was located in the upper and lower-outer quadrant of the right breast, and partially invaded the skin overlying the right breast. The lump was diagnosed as breast cancer, and radical mastectomy with reconstruction of the skin deficit by means of the skin graft of muscle rectus abdominis, was performed. The tumor was 11×12×12cm in size and a squamous cell carcinoma of the breast (T4b n1 M1, stage IV) histologically. This tumor was a rare case as to the size. Ninety-one cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the breast reported in the Japanese literature were analyzed and the following results could be drawn out in comparison with all breast cancers. 1) Squamous cell carcinoma of the breast was predominant in older women. 2) The tumors commonly had longer diameter. 3) Lymph node metastasis of T1 category was more frequently seen. 4) Prognosis was slightly poorer.
