Abstract
A case of leiomyoblastoma in the lesser sac, occurring in a 57 year-old woman was described. The patient complained of persistent pain in the upper abdomen, and Ba meal examination revealed a gastric ulcer on the lesser curvature of the gastric body. CT scan revealed a round mass of 8cm in diameter between the left lobe of the liver and the stomach. At laparotomy a reddish-purple mass was noted in the lesser sac without connection to the stoamch. No metastatic lesions were found. Only removal of the tumor was performed. The histological diagnosis was epithelioid leiomyoma without mitotic figures. The patient is alive and well 3 years postoperatively.
Extagastric leiomyoblastomas are extremely rare. Only three cases of leiomyoblastoma arising in the lesser sac have been reported previously. In addition, the world literature on leiomyoblastoma arising from the organs which have no smooth muscle component except vascular smooth muscle was reviewed.
