Abstract
Compared to gastric cancers, myogenic tumors of the stomach have relatively better prognosis. Especially leiomyoblastomas rarely run a malignant course, and only 17 cases of leiomyoblastoma of the stomach with malignant course were seen in the domestic literature. In this paper a patient with leiomyoblastoma of the stomach who died of recurrence 8 months after surgery is reported. An 83-year-old man consulted our hospital because of general fatigue. A tumor of 18 cm in length diameter with ulcer was found to occupy the cardiac lesion. Operation was performed with a diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma. There was no lymph node metastasis, liver metastasis, nor peritoneal dissemination, but direct invasion to left lobe of the liver and diaphragma was found. Proximal gastrectomy and left lobe partial resection of the liver were performed. Histologically, the tumor was leiomyoblastoma of high grade malignancy. Adjuvant therapy was not done because of his great age. At 7th month after surgery, he had not been also to take food orally and was readmitted. The patient died of local recurrence and multiple metastasis at 8th month after surgery.
