Abstract
In terms of the histologic types of gallbladder cancers, adenosquamous carcinoma has a low incidence and presents several clinicopathological features differing from those of the adenocarcinoma. Here we describe a case of adenosquamous carcinoma of the gallbladder in a 65-year-old man, resulting in macroscopical curative resection by pancreatoduodenctomy, segmentectomy of the liver, and right hemicolectomy under a diagnosis of gallbladder carcinoma with direct invasion into the transverse colon and choleithiasis. Pathological examination of the resected specimen indicated that squamous cell carcinoma occupaied almost 100% of the lesion which appered an extremely advanced adenosquamous carcinoma. Macroscopically it showed several clinicopathological features characteristic of adenosquamous carcinoma, namely, it presented as nodular infiltrating type, invaded the adjacent organs directly, and formed a gastrointestinal obstruction. There has been no recurrence up to now, 5 months after the operation. Further improvement in the prognosis can be expected even for extremely advanced gallbladder carcinoma by some extensive surgeries according to its infiltrating patterns.
