Abstract
A 54-year-old female was admitted to the hospital because of a child-head sized tumor in the left breast with ulceration and severe anemia. X-ray examination showed bilateral multiple lung metastases. From minute examinations, the tumor was diagnosed as malignant phyllodes tumors, and modified radical mastectomy was performed. Histological examination revealed that the tumor did not show any atypical growth of the epitherium. It had a predominantly sarcomatous pattern, mainly bearing a close resemblance to a leiomyosarcoma. The angiosarcomatous and chondrosarcomatous patterns were partially observed. Osteoid formation was also presented. The estrogen receptor examination of this tumor was weak positive, but it did not respond to endocrine therapy. Five months later, the patient died of respiratory insufficiency due to the lung metastases. This case indicates that the complete resection in early phase is only successful treatment of this tumor.
