Abstract
A resected case of heterochrnous triple cancer which were cofined to the gastrointestinal tract is described. The patient was a 73-year-old man. There were histories of undergoing abdominoperineal excision for a rectal cancer (well differentiated adenocarcinoma) at the age of 64, and distal subtotal gastrectomy for gastric cancer (tubular adenocarcinoma of moderately differentiated type) at the age of 68. This time when the patient was 73 years old, excision of the thoracic esophagus and remnant stomach was performed for an esophageal cancer (squamous cell carcinoma). An recent increse in number of double cancer has been discussed, but triple cancer is still rare. In the light of the literature, 45 cases of triple cancer including esophageal cancer have been reported in Japan. There are only 5 cases of triple cancer of the esophagus, stomach and rectum. In the long-term follow up of postoperative patients with cancer, careful attitude would be mandatory for possible occurrence of secondary or tertiary cancer of other organ.
