Abstract
An experience with popliteal arterial aneurysm associated with medial mucoid degeneration is described, A 37-year-old male visited a nearby practitioner because of paresthesia in the right foot.
He was pointed out having a pulsatile mass and referred to our hospital.
Ultrasonography, CT, and angiography showed a right popliteal aneurysm with intramutal thrombosis. AT operation, the aneurysm was transected and vascular reconstruction was performed by the end-to-end anastomosis of autogenous saphenous vein. Pathological examination showed medial mucoid degeneration, where smooth muscle and elastic fibers decreased. There were also no findings of arteriosclerosis and inflammatory infiltrates. This popliteal arterial aneurysm is supposed to be classified as arterial dysplasia reported by D. Melliere.
