Abstract
Prognosis of patients with carcinoma of the stomach exposing from the serosa is not favorable even when curative surgery was carried out and the majority developed peritoneal recurrence. In patients with P0, H0, S2 (more than se), intermittent administration of CDDP with VP-16 was attempted. Eleven of 43 patients treated with curative surgery at stage 3 or 4 were treated with intraperitoneal administration and all of the eleven patients are alive ranging from six months to 32 months. On the other hand, six patients of the remaining 32 recurred as peritoneal disease and died. Eighteen patients who had P0, H0, and S2 (more than se) underwent noncurative surgery and eight of them were treated with this modality. One of them developed peritoneal recurrence and another developed lung metastasis but the remaining six patients are alive ranging from seven months to 32 months. Eight of 10 patients who were not treated with this modality recurred and died, and six of the eight developed peritoneal recurrence. Intermittent intraperitoneal administration of CDDP in combination with VP-16 for patients with carcinoma of the stomach exposing from the serosal surface was possibly useful to prevent peritoneal recurrence.
