Abstract
It can seldom occur that almost same histological (sarcoid reaction) as granuloma in sarcoidosis is observed in the regional lymph nodes of a malignant tumor. There has been no clearcut on its etiology and significance. This paper describes a case of early gastric cancer in which sarcoid reaction was found in the regional lymph nodes.
A 59-year-old woman was operated on for double early gastric cancer of type IIa. Postoperative pathological examination of the regional lymph nodes revealed no metastasis but existence of granuloma tissues comprising of epithelioid cells. No caseous necrosis was noted. This case was diagnosed as having sarcoid reaction because of the existence of gastric cancer as an underlying disease.
Thirty-four cases of gastric cancer with sarcoid reaction in the regional lymph nodes were seen in the Japanese literature, and 12 of them and this case, of which details were known, were discussed. No particular tendency was observed in macroscopic type, histological type, invasion depth of these lesions of the stomach, and presence of positive regional lymph nodes.
