Abstract
Solitary tuberculoma of the liver is extremely rare, with only 33 reported cases in Japan. This paper presents such a case along with a review of the literature in Japan. A 36-year-old female was admitted to the hospital for examination because of fever. Abdominal CT, abdominal ultrasonography and common hepatic arteriography showed a tumor extending over the S4 and S5 areas of liver. Partial hepatectomy was conducted to excise the tumor along with the gallbladder. Pathohistologicaly, the tumor was a granuloma composed of epitheloid cells and Langhans-type giant cells, accompanying by caseation. From these findings, this case was diagnosed as having a solitary tuberculoma of the liver. In a review of the literature, no standard tendency in imaging diagnostic features was able to be found for solitary tuberculomas, however, this case might offer distinctive features in imaging diagnosis of the disease in acute phase.
