Abstract

A case of umbilical endometriosis was reported for its rarity. A 45-year-old woman, who had experienced 2 times pregnancies and 2 times labors, was hospitalized with umbilical tumor. The tumor was about 1.5 cm in diameter, hard and pigmented in brown, and had become painful and reddened during menstration. Umbilical endometriosis was suspected, and tumor was excised. Resected material was elastic hard in consistency, 20 mm×20 mm in size, and its cut surface was grayish-white and parenchymal. Histological diagnosis was endometriosis. Recurrence is not observed with nasal suprecur administration a year after surgery.
Umbilical endometriosis is very rare. It comprises of 0.3-3.0% of all endometriosis, and only 42 cases have been reported in Japan including present case. However, as endometriosis is most common in umbilical tumors in female, a history should carefully be taken regarding the exacerbation of symptoms at menstruction.
