The ileus derived from bezoar is a rare entity and presents difficulty in preoperative diagnosis. We report an operated case of this disease be together with a review of the literature. A 63-year-old male visited another hospital because of repeated nausea and vomiting lasting for several days. He was diagnosed as ileus due to suspectedly a duodenal tumor by a defect of shadow in the duodenal second porytion by a gastroduodenography. After adminission to the hospital gastro-intestinalgraphy using an endoscopy showed two defects of shadow in the jejunum which moved according to his changes of body position. A diagnosis of ileus due to a foreign body (bezoar) was made and conservative therapy expecting spontaneous discharge was attempted. But even on the 9th day after the therapy no remission in symptoms nor discharge of any bezoar was attained. So we removed 5 pieces of bezoar from an incision of the gastric wall by operation. An analysis of bezoar which considted of 98% of tannin and hertaste of persimmon as a daily food offered the definite diganosis of ileus due to the persimmon bezoar.
