Abstract
A very rare case of retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst is reported. A 44-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of upper abdominal pain. Abdominal ultrasonography and CT revealed a retroperitoneal cyst adjacent to the stomach, and gallbladder stones. General blood biochemical findings and tumor markers (CEA and CA19-9) were in normal range. In order to resect the gallbladder and cystic lesion, a laparotomy was performed when the cyst adhered to the retroperitoneum on the left side of the abdominal aorta and on the head side of the pancreas was seen. The excised cyst was 4.5×3.5cm in size with smooth surface and was filled with light yellow mucous. Histological diagnosis was bronchogenic cyst.
Bronchogenic cysts most frequently occur in the posterior part of the mediastinum, but they have been reported as appearing occasionally elsewhere in the unusual site. This paper reports such a rare case with a review of the literature.
